We’ve implemented AES-256 encryption with PBKDF2 SHA-256 salted hashes to completely obfuscate your data in the cloud – it can only be decrypted by you, in your LastPass password vault, on your trusted devices.

When your trial ends, you'll have the option to purchase a paid annual subscription. If you continue on the LastPass Free plan, all your saved data will remain in your vault, you'll just lose access to the paid features.
While LastPass Free is a great solution, Premium gives you a more secure and convenient password management options:
- Gain access across all your devices and browsers with no limitations. For example, you can save a password in your browser and then access it on your smartwatch. With the Free plan, you can use LastPass on either your desktop or mobile devices –not both.
- Share passwords with multiple users at the same time, whether it’s your family, roommates, or friends. With the Free plan, you only can share one password with one person at a time.
- With Premium, you get emergency account access, which allows you to give people you trust one-time access to your password vault in the event of a medical emergency. This is not available on the Free plan.
- Premium users receive personal support managed by the LastPass customer care team. Free users only receive access to our self-service support resources.
- Hardware multifactor authentication options (like YubiKey) are available with Premium, whereas a Free user’s MFA options are limited to popular MFA apps.
- Users with the Premium plan get access to more passwordless vault access options, including FIDO2-certified biometric and hardware authenticators like FaceID, TouchID, YubiKey, and more. Users on the Free plan can only use the LastPass Authenticator app for passwordless vault access.
