Is your Chrome password manager enough?

You may already be using Google Chrome’s built-in password manager to save and autofill logins while browsing the web. While convenient, the Google password manager lacks security and convenience features essential to LastPass.

LastPass makes it easy for users to save, manage, share, autofill, and secure passwords across all devices – not just those on which Chrome is downloaded.

Integral security features like dark web monitoring, 24/7 password scores, multifactor authentication, and high-grade encryption ensures your login details are kept safe at all times.

    Frequently asked questions

How to deactivate your Chrome password manager and switch to LastPass?

    • Make sure you are signed into your Chrome browser with your Google account
    • Go to Chrome Settings, click on Passwords and Autofill, then click on the Google Password Manager. Under Settings, switch the toggle off so Chrome does not offer to save your passwords.
    • Switch the second toggle off for "Auto Sign-In" so that LastPass can take over filling your credentials on all our favorite sites
    • To ensure all your existing saved passwords transfer over to LastPass, export your previously saved passwords and logins into a CSV file
    • Take the security challenge to see how strong your passwords are. If you have any weak or reused passwords, use the LastPass password generator to create new ones and update those accounts.
    • You can then import the file to LastPass

What makes LastPass a better password management solution?

Part of the strength of LastPass is that we’re a standalone password management solution trusted by millions of users, from families to enterprise organizations. Since password management is what we do, we’ve fine-tuned the password manager experience to all users’ needs.

LastPass users receive a password manager that’s customizable to their needs. Best of all, users receive complete convenience and security on-the-go. Instead of being stuck to Chrome, users get a highly secure password manager that travels with them from device to device, so their digital life is always secure and within reach.

Do I need a password manager for Chrome?

Strong passwords are your first line of defense against data breaches and bad actors. But when the average person has to manage 100+ accounts, it’s hard to create a unique password for every one – especially if they rely on memorizing them.

A password manager not only helps users avoid password reuse, it makes it easier than ever to manage and access your digital life from anywhere. Generate a strong password, save it to your LastPass password vault, and LastPass will autofill it for you next time to log in, eliminating the need for password memorization while securing your accounts.
