How to AutoFill Passwords on Android

LastPass integrates with Google’s AutoFill framework for a fast, convenient mobile browsing experience

What is AutoFill?

With the release of Android Oreo (8.0), Google introduced an AutoFill framework that makes it easy to fill passwords and forms in apps. Once you save information like your passwords, address, and payment cards to the AutoFill service, you can fill out forms with a single tap. Google’s AutoFill is also compatible with password managers like LastPass and other apps. The passwords you save to LastPass, for example, can also be filled by the AutoFill service.

Why use AutoFill on Andoid?

Save time

AutoFill eliminates time spent on typing repetitive information. By filling in your saved passwords, contact cards, or saved credit cards for you in a few clicks, you’ll be able to complete tasks much more quickly.

Reduce headaches

It's hard to remember dozens, or even hundreds, of username and password combinations. With the AutoFill feature, you store the right information once, and it’s filled for you correctly, every time.

Improve security

If you must remember and type all your passwords, you’ll choose ones that are simple and insecure. With a password manager to remember and AutoFill your passwords, you can use strong, unique ones.

What can you AutoFill on Android?

Usernames and passwords

Once your passwords are stored with LastPass — autofill will save you from typing another password ever again. Automatically log in to saved sites and auto-save newly created accounts.

Addresses

Whether you’re shipping to the office or to your home, LastPass saves all your addresses so you can finish shopping quickly. More practical and functional than an address book.

Payment cards and credit cards

When you’re ready to make a purchase, LastPass makes it easy to complete your payment and go on to the next thing.

How a password manager works with AutoFill

Google has a built-in password manager that stores your login information for your online accounts. However, many people choose a password manager like LastPass for the added security and flexibility. If using LastPass, you can simply enable it as your AutoFill service to fill passwords when using Google Chrome on Android or other apps. Our autofill experience should feel similar, but a LastPass pop up will appear when you are presented with a login field.

  1. Make sure you are using a device with Android Oreo (8.0) or higher
  2. If you haven’t already, download the LastPass app to your Android device and create a LastPass account.
  3. Open the LastPass app on your Android device
  4. Tap the menu button, then tap Settings at the bottom
  5. Open Autofill, and then the toggle next to Android Oreo Autofill. You’ll be asked to give permission to autofill, which you can accept
  6. On the next screen, click the radio button next to LastPass to enable the app for autofill.
